Gunshots rang out on North Road, Bourda, last night, but although it did set alarm bells ringing, in the end it turned out that it was just to scare of two petty thieves.
The shots were discharged in the air by a Regent Street businessman to scare off the two thieves who were carting off some construction materials from his Bel Air home around 20:00 hours.
Reports reaching this newspaper state that the businessman was alerted by a neighbour that two men had stolen some construction materials from his yard and were heading down Vlissengen Road.
The businessman armed himself with his licence firearm, got into his Toyota Rav 4 and pursued the men.
He caught up with them while they were pushing the cart load of materials along north road near the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground, Bourda.
The man, exercising restraint, fired several shots into the air and the terrified thieves fled leaving their loot behind.
Several persons, including personnel from the MMC Security Service, who heard the gunshots, converged on the scene thinking that it was another execution-style killing, only to find out the real reason behind the shooting.
Over the past few days, city residents have been on alert following several reports of shootings.
But except for the attack on a Kitty bar on Friday night and the execution style killing of Vibert Weekes early Saturday morning, most of the reports turned out not crucial.
