Residents of Parika Backdam are concerned of the lack of basic utilities that are not given to them and the relevant authorities that seem not to acknowledge their existence.
According to Devi Gobin, 25, of Parika Backdam, they are yet to receive electricity, drinkable tap water and proper roads. All the residents are farmers and are frustrated that the government ignores their existence.
“There is one entrance to Naamriyka Backdam and Ruby Backdam and vehicles are afraid to come in here since plenty damage is caused by the road. Aren’t we entitled to electricity and tap water? There are two schools, a Primary and a Nursery. How is the Government allowing our next generation to grow in darkness?” Devi said.
Another resident said that because the population is just over 500, there seem to be no interest paid to that section of the population.
“We need some development in Parika Backdam because we look like we don’t exist” Devi said.
