…vehicle owners affiliated with department
For several years now the Auditor General’s reports have been pointing out a situation at the High Court Registry where several millions are being paid for taxi services and despite the fact that they have been provided with vehicles this situation still ongoing.
Moreover, there was a promised investigation by Former Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Doodnauth Singh, to probe the fact that the taxi services used were owned by persons directly affiliated to that department.
There has since been no report on this probe.
The Public Accounts Committee was recently informed that the taxis are used in six Magisterial Districts, servicing a total of 45 courts.
The taxis are used to transport Magistrates that don’t have duty free concessions as well as clerks and other staffers in outlying areas when necessary.
The taxis are also used to transport court files, office materials, janitorial supplies as well as the serving of summons and notices among others.
