The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs is hopeful that this year will be as successful as the previous one.
The Ministry plans to embark on a much more expansive approach to the National Hinterland Secure Livelihood Programme.
With some amount of certainty, Amerindian Affairs Minister, Pauline Sukhai, said that President Jagdeo plans to expand the programme.
For this year, the Ministry will address the potential of the South Pakaraimas and advance the programme to other areas.
“Within that context of expansion, we will see the development of our core national volunteer component coming to bear on that programme and we will see communities being responsive to the support which we will have to attract to address their economic activities they would want to pursue,” Sukhai said.
The Ministry also plans to aggressively tackle the economy of Amerindian communities.
The project department at the Ministry will deal with the transformation aspect of the village economy as there would be a heightened approach to dealing with the economics of the villages.
Sukhai also plans to improve the service based activities that are offered by the Ministry as she noted that there is much more room for improvement.
“I say so because as you solve one problem, others will come and there is no problem that can be solved immediately or satisfactorily.”
She explained that the staff will be called on to deploy more effort, support and greater efficiency to dealing with problems.
