Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday granted $25,000 bail to one of two Bourda Market vendors charged for stealing plucked chicken from the owner of a Chinese cook shop. The other accused did not appear in court yesterday since he was not yet arrested.
Jason Adams, 18, of 58 Light Street appeared to answer a charge of simple larceny. The absent accused was named as Joel Captain.
It is alleged that on November 28, at Bourda, the two stole 209 lbs of plucked chicken valued at $48,000 property of Jai Ling Lu. Adams pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day in question the two men were working for Jai Ling Lu who purchased over 500lbs of chicken. He said that Lu left the two accused unattended and returned to see two bags of chicken along with the two men missing.
He added that the duo took the chicken to sell it to the person who sold the chicken to Lu. Telford said that the person whom they took the chicken to contacted Lu and informed him of what happened.
The Acting Chief Magistrate after taking note of what was related granted the accused bail. He is expected to return to court on January 12.
