The University of Guyana (UG) will be holding a one-week Quality Assurance Workshop from January 11-15 at its Turkeyen Campus.
This workshop is a follow-up to the situation analysis that was conducted on July 15 and 16 last at the Turkeyen Campus by Ms Jacqueline Moniquette of the Quality Assurance Unit of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus.
The exercise will involve 58 staff members from both campuses of UG and will start the University on a pathway of continuous audit of its operations to fulfill students’ expectations and build stakeholders’ confidence in the services it provides.
From this workshop, the UG will build its capacity to monitor its performance against established standards, improve its operations and make corrections to its direction in order to enhance the quality of its output in both teaching and research.
According to Vice-Chancellor Professor Lawrence Carrington, “The University of Guyana’s ability to fulfill Guyana’s needs hinges on its ability to achieve and maintain excellence in teaching and research.”
The four facilitators for the workshop have been drawn from the three campuses of the University of the West Indies: Dr Sandra Richards, Senior Programme Officer, Quality Assurance Unit UWI, Cave Hill; Ms Jacqueline Moniquette, Senior Programme Officer, Quality Assurance Unit, UWI, Cave Hill; Dr Anna-May Edwards-Henry, Director, Instructional Development Unit UWI, St. Augustine and Dr Anna Perkins, Programme Officer, Quality Assurance Unit, Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies UWI, Mona.
The collaboration with UWI is part of the ongoing relations formalised in December 2008 with the establishment of the UG/UWI Joint Working Group on Collaboration.
This initiative has led to a number of proposals for inter-university cooperation in a number of programmes and joint ventures.
