Nicholas Cameron blasts 102*, Jamal Jarvis hits 80*
A brilliant undefeated 102 by 13 year-old Nicholas Cameron and an attacking unbeaten 80 from Berbice Under-15 all rounder Jamal Jarvis led the Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes (RHTF&M) cricket team first innings points over arch rivals Port Mourant in the Berbice Cricket Board Tenelec Inc Under-15 tournament.
The result booked a place for RHTF&M in the tournament final.
Batting first after winning the toss Port Mourant were bundled out for 59 in 27 of their allotted 60 overs. Opener Marvin Veerasammy 25 and Shailendra Shameer 12 were the only batters offering any resistance to the Rose Hall spin based attack. Leg spinner Shawn Perreira was at his destructive best with 5-20 off 12 overs, leg spinner Kumar Madray took 2-3 and pacer Jamal Jarvis 2-14.
In reply, Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes lost opener Clifford Wong in the first over at 1-1, but Cameron and the left handed Jamal Brusche added 80 for the next wicket to take the home team to first innings points.
Brusche was bowled by off spinner Marvin Veerasammy for 20, the inform Perreira was bowled by off spinner Arif Chan for 15 with the score at 93-3 after 40 overs. The dismissal of Perreira was the last wicket for Port Mourant as the level headed Cameron, who looked a real talent at 13 and Jarvis added 133 for the 4th wicket – Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes ended on 230-3 when their 60 over expired.
Cameron’s 102 came off 141 balls with 13 boundaries while Jarvis’ 80 included 12 fours and 2 massive sixes. With a healthy first innings lead of 171, RHTF&M and Port Mourant decided to end the match with less than one hour remaining.
Port Mourant, two days earlier, had reached the semi-finals by defeating Scottsburg United by 6 wickets in their quarter-final game played at the Port Mourant Cricket ground.
Scores: Scottsburg United 70; Steffon Hope 18. Leg spinner Beesham Deolall 5-17, Manoj Looknauth 3-25. Port Mourant 109; Looknauth 22 and Deolall 15. Bowling for Scottsburg Parmanand Angad 4-20, P. Narine 3-40 and Dwayne Edwards 2-14.
