NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – Baby Anirood is not only the first to be born at the New Amsterdam Hospital in 2010, but the first for his 18-year old mother.
Speaking from her hospital bed on January 1st, 2010, Navashree Anirood of Belvedere Village on the Corentyne vowed that he would be her last, at least for now.
“It was terrible, the pain was too much. I was admitted on Thursday (December 31st). It was just pain.”
The boy entered the world at 06:50 hours on Friday.
“I am proud. We ain’t name he as yet. His father would open book to get a name for he.”
According to Anirood, she was rewarded for delivering the first baby for this year at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
“The Republic Bank give me a hamper and a cheque.”
There were three other babies born on January 1st.
Twenty eight-year old Candacie George of Nurney Village on the Corentyne delivered a boy, 37-year old Indra Mahadeo of Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, after a caesarian section, got a girl and Donicia Anderson, 21 of Number Five Village on the West Coast of Berbice gave birth to her first baby, a boy.
