A 44-year-old of East Ruimveldt was clinging to life last night after being shot in the head by an unknown gunman in Laing Avenue.
Pascal Johnson, who is unemployed, was shot at close range in the right temple at around 21:00 hrs.
The circumstances of the shooting and the identity of the gunman are unclear.
According to relatives at the hospital Johnson was with his spouse Lisa Nurse at the time of the incident. She has since been taken into custody.
Nurse recounting the incident told this newspaper that she was running from Johnson after taking a $500 from him when she heard the gunshot.
“I was running from he on the Avenue and all I hear is ‘pow’ and when I turn round I see people crowding round and when I look I see Pascal on the ground bleeding from he head.”
Nurse said that she then summoned a car and took the injured man to the hospital.
When Kaieteur News visited Laing Avenue residents said that they were unaware of any shooting incident.
Up to press time Johnson was still in a critical condition at the hospital.
