An accident on the Mabura Road early yesterday morning has left one man dead, and four others nursing injuries of varying degrees of severity.
Dead is Neishan Shameer, of somewhere the East Bank Demerara, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital Complex after the vehicle in which he and four other persons were travelling turned turtle. Shameer’s uncle Esau Akbar also suffered extensive head injuries and is listed in a critical condition.
The vehicle was reportedly driven by Akbar’s son Arron.
Taxi driver Clifton Norton told this newspaper that he was heading to Linden with a passenger, when he saw the men attempting to get out the vehicle which was on its side.
Norton said he stopped and assisted the men and brought three of them to Linden, including Shameer who was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Hospital.
He said the driver however did not travel out with him but opted to remain on the scene.
Norton’s female passenger also opted to remain on the scene, as she said she could not stand the smell of the blood, as two of the men were bleeding profusely.
The men refused to divulge any information as to how they met with the accident, but according to reports the vehicle was proceeding at a fast rate when the driver lost control after it skidded on some bricks.
