Dear Editor,
I refer to F. Hamley Case’s article (01/01/2010), which referred to the (30/12/2009), Editorial, captioned, “Dialogue Not Debate”.
I find this article referring to a President Felix Houphouet Boigny quite interesting although the “Dialogue Not Debate” article did not directly mentioned how our President Jagdeo runs Guyana, although one can take the hint.
But merely writing about how President Felix led his country for over 30 years with 70 ethnic groups and over 20 million people makes me think the leader and opposition of Guyana, should learn a lesson from President Felix.
I ask this question, “Are all of those people from the 70 ethnic groups of African origin or does this consists of Indian descents as in Guyana?
If not, then the situation is not as complex as in Guyana which will be more difficult to govern whether by an Indo or Afro-Guyanese leader.
Although Guyana only has a fraction of those 70 ethnic groups in West Africa, it has more deep-rooted problems and whoever governs Guyana, does not have an easy task on their hands.
Perhaps the leaders should embrace each other first and then the people will follow. Happy New Year!
Stanley Chaitram
