Just after 15:30hrs yesterday, two gunmen attacked the Hits and Jams television studio Queenstown office, allegedly held up some staffers and made off with an undisclosed sum of cash believed to be amounting to millions of dollars.
Reports are that the men arrived on a motorbike and fired several shots in the air while demanding money. Reports are that when the cash was handed over the gunmen left the scene but no one was injured from the gunfire.
When contacted the Hits and Jams management was tight lipped on what transpired but acknowledged that a robbery did occur on the premises by two gun tooting men on a motorbike.
The management also confirmed that shots were fired and that no one was injured. However, a witness said that he did see blood oozing from entertainer Dwight Ferguson’s hand but the management neither confirmed nor denied this. Sources close to the TV station reported that the men escaped with several millions.
However, the police in a statement late yesterday said that they were investigating an armed robbery that occurred at Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, during which Dwight Ferguson, 26 years, was attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Investigations revealed that Dwight Ferguson was standing by his motor vehicle in which he had placed $1 million when two men rode up on a motor cycle.
One of the men discharged a round into the air which caused Ferguson to seek shelter away from the vehicle.
The armed man then smashed one of the windows of the vehicle, grabbed the money and escaped on the motor cycle driven by his accomplice.
A spent shell was recovered at the scene by the police.
