Elderly Lusignan woman was strangled

Police on the East Coast of Demerara are now convinced that 73-year old of Lusignan, Rajkumar Mahadeo was murdered.
This is after a post mortem examination revealed that Mahadeo died from manual strangulation.
The elderly woman who tends a small herd of cattle, was found lying dead outside the gateway of her yard at around 5:45 hours on Christmas Eve Day by her next door neighbor.
But so far police have not yet come up with a motive for Mahadeo’s killing and as such they have no suspect.
The dead woman’s son, Edwin Mahadeo, suspects that his mother was attacked by persons who were attempting to steal her cows.
However, none of the cattle or Mahadeo’s valuables were missing.
“Her wedding ring was found on her fingers…It looks like a spiteful act,” the woman’s son had told this newspaper.
The tragedy occurred at a time when several of the dead woman’s grandchildren had come from overseas to spend the Christmas holidays with her.
Her death is third tragic death the family has encountered.
Mahadeo’s husband was murdered on June 25, 1973 by a mob in Buxton, while her grandson Trevor Fung was killed by bandits on Valentine’s Day 2004.
