New Gym and mini play field to be opened soon
The Berbice Police B division has been constantly undertaking projects to enhance their image and make life better for those in its employ in addition to the police community relationships, this is despite all the negatives that have been filling the air about the police excess and other atrocities.
So far for the year a number of initiatives have been successfully undertaken, including the reformation of police youth clubs and scouts groups throughout the county, the successful staging of the Police Gymkhana, Domino and other competitions among, the cops, the army, neighborhood police and civilians.
A number of other sporting activities were organised including cycling, Volleyball and cricket, some of which were attended by the Commissioner of Police Henry Green, while community walkabout, visits and adoption of some communities were also undertaken. Most of the projects were initiated under the stewardship of previous Commander Assistant Commissioner George Vyphuis who has since been transferred to ‘A’ division in the same capacity.
At the moment a Gym area and play field is in the final stages of construction at the Central Police station compound in New Amsterdam and the main players behind the project are Assistant Superintendent of Police Calvin Brutus and station sergeant attached to the Central Police Sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan.
Sergeant Ramlakhan speaking to Kaieteur sports recently, said that the idea is all part of the forces enhancement project where it is being geared to take on a new image which is all in the quest of doing things differently.
A number of indoor and as well as outdoor games will be played at the facilities including volleyball, basketball, small goal football, cricket and table tennis.
The facilities when completed will be mostly used by members of the force, but will also be opened to the public. The Gym will be equipped with all the latest and modern conveniences.
A number of businesses in the county and other cooperate and communities based organisations have pledged their support and their commitment towards the project and have given their commitment towards donating equipment for the gym. The facility will be known as the Central Recreational Centre.
