After one week on the run, the Foul Mouth, Essequibo miner who allegedly strangled 50-year-old boat operator Patricia Williams has been captured.
Reports out of Bartica indicate that the suspect turned himself over to an uncle, who in turn took him to the Bartica Police Station at around 18:30 hrs.
The miner had gone into hiding in the Foul Mouth backlands last week Monday after Patricia Williams’s partially nude body was discovered in a clump of bushes in the area just above Makouria on the Essequibo River.
A post mortem revealed that she had been strangled.
Williams is believed to have been attacked and murdered while transporting the suspect in her boat.
According to the police, initial investigations revealed that Williams had transported a group of men from Bartica to Foul Mouth earlier that day.
According to reports, the suspect would occasionally come out of hiding to contact some of his relatives.
Asked why efforts were not apparently made to capture him, a police official said that ranks from Bartica were unfamiliar with the territory and were trying to get residents to accompany them in the search.
