The respective cricket teams of Guyana’s leading Youth Club – Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club – along with the entity’s over-35 group have successfully completed their Christmas Charity Programme for 2009 valued at some 2.5 million dollars.
The teams – Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17, Pepsi Under-19, Metro Female and the First Division team undertook the programme under the Personal Development Programme which aims to make a difference in the lives of their peers and the less fortunate.
The Programme was launched on Sunday December 13, when they hosted 120 senior citizens at a Christmas luncheon at the J. C Chandisingh Secondary School. Apart from enjoying a healthy lunch, each of the senior citizens received a food hamper and special gifts.
On Wednesday December 16, a total of 200 persons were provided with a healthy meal as part of a general feeding of the poor programme which is a weekly activity of the club.
The teams on Friday December 18 organized a Christmas party for 400 less fortunate children at the Area ‘H’ ground and apart from indulging in the many goodies, the children also received toys.
On Sunday December 20, the teams surprised senior members of the club with a special dinner held at the Area ‘H’ ground head office. This event was organized as a thank you gesture for their hard work during the year.
Among the other activities held were – sharing out of 100 hampers to less fortunate families; sharing out of educational materials to 60 students for the new school year; donation of $150,000 worth of items to eight (8) NGO’s and schools for their respective Christmas parties; sponsorship of Christmas TV Programmes in Berbice; sponsorship of $70,000 worth of items to the Berbice Cricket Board for a donation to the Children of God Promise Eden Orphanage in New Amsterdam; sponsorship of the Berbice Cricket Board 2009 Christmas cards, co-sponsorship of the Berbice Cricket Board Christmas party for 60 children and 12 food hampers for senior citizens and the sharing out of $300,000 worth of clothing to residents of Rose Hall Town.
Secretary/CEO of the Club Hilbert Foster praised the cricket teams and the executives of the club for their hard work during the festive season, noting that the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sport Club over its years of existence has organized activities each year since it strongly believes in assisting others.
The club he says, believes that no one should go hungry, thirsty or naked during the festive season and expressed gratitude to every person and company who contributed towards the hosting of the programme, especially publisher of the Kaieteur News Mr. Glen Lall who donated a large amount of toys.
