BATH SETTLEMENT, WEST COAST BERBICE – The President of the Aditya Kids Trust Foundation, Archie Mohan, indicated that 2009 saw his organisation making life somewhat easier for some children especially on the West Coast of Berbice.
According to him, their motto, ‘Investing in our future by helping kids’ spoke for itself when the organisation invested in a number of projects.
He explained that their assistance was given in areas such as health, education, sports and even leisure.
According to him, some of the contributions include the recently held luncheon and the distribution of presents to children of the Canaan Home at Port Mourant. There was the annual Santa Parade from Bush Lot Village on the West Coast of Berbice to Ithaca Village on the West Bank. This event was supported by the churches in Shieldstown, Blairmont and Bath Settlement.
Recently, the group fêted 200 children from the West Coast of Berbice during the annual Christmas party. In Toronto, Canada another party was held but as a fundraiser.
Other projects done during the 2009 period was the sponsoring of two under-17 cricketers – Andrew Denis and Krishna Sewtahal for sessions with a club in Trinidad.
Two hundred children and their parents were also taken on an excursion to the Jubilee Resort.
The Aditya Kids Trust Foundation also hosted Spelling Bee competitions along with an essay and talent competition for the Mortice Primary, Bath Primary and Nursery schools. Winners received trophies and monetary rewards.
According to Mr. Mohan, these events were only possible because of the kindness of their supporters and volunteers both in Canada and Guyana.
The Aditya Kids Trust Foundation was established in December 2007 in memory of seven-year old Aditya Ramdhan of Bath Settlement who passed away in September 2007.
The child, who attended the Waterloo Nursery School, was sponsored to undergo cardiac surgery in India but died after the procedure.
