Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo on Christmas Day distributed presents in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, where he was met by a large number of children who were up early and eagerly awaiting their gifts, and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) paediatric ward.
During the visit to the GPHC, the President was accompanied by Public Service Minister, Dr. Jennifer Westford, and Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, Dr. Nanda Gopaul.
After his visit to the GPHC, the President stated that while it has become a tradition from him to distribute gifts on Christmas morning to less fortunate children, it is still difficult to see children suffering.
“It has been very difficult to come to this Children’s Ward here. Seeing all the kids in pain on this very special day is not an easy thing,” he said.
“I hope that whilst we all enjoy ourselves at Christmas, and this is my sincere hope that all of Guyana would really enjoy the festive season and people seem to be doing this, that we also spare some thought for those who are less fortunate,” the President further added.
