The Guyana Defence Force, on Wednesday, brought Christmas cheer to the members of the Toucan II Multi-Purpose Club of Buxton when it presented the club with a 32-inch flat-screen Toshiba television.
Woman Lieutenant, Dawn Robertson, made the presentation and wished the club members a happy holiday season while expressing the hope that the television would be used for their edification.
The presentation was made at the club’s Children’s Christmas Party which held at the Friendship Primary School and also included the distribution of bags of goodies distributed by Officers of the Force.
The army in a press releases stated that this gift to the youth club was another of the Force’s activities during this festive season which focused on bringing joy not only to its Officers and Ranks, but also to others across the wider society.
It was also another demonstration of the Force’s commitment to strengthening communities through efforts to create safe and worthwhile environments for the positive development of Guyana’s youths.
Elder and co-founder of the Club, Yvette Herod said that her organization continues to be grateful to the GDF for its support and explained that the club, which caters for youths aged seven to twenty-one, aims to help its members to develop into positive and constructive members of their society.
She also said the television will enhance that process as they will be able to screen historical and educational material for the members’ benefit.
Yesterday, the GDF continued to spread Christmas cheer, as Senior Non-Commissioned Officers from three of its Units joined with representatives of the USMLO to distribute soft toys and books to children of the Joshua House orphanage.
