A Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo businessman is at his wits end with police on West Coast Demerara after been given the royal run around to get back his money stolen from him during a robbery and recovered by the police.
Charles Cozier, of 293 Tuschen, operates a general store in the area.
Within the past two months he was robbed twice during a break in at his premises.
The first break in occurred on November 21 and he lost $400,000 in cash and a quantity of clothing worth some $200,000.
On December 17, last, again the man’s premises were broken into and another $400,000 was stolen. Cozier said during the initial stages of the investigation he told the police at the Leonora Police Station whom he had suspected was responsible. Some of the stolen clothing was recovered at the suspect’s home.
In the second robbery the same thing was done and fortunately for Cozier the money was found in addition to a quantity of marijuana.
Cozier said that he was summoned to the police station and was asked to ‘describe’ his money.
“I told them everything they needed to know; I told them how the money was packaged; I told them how many hundred dollar bills, how much T&T Dollars and that’s what they showed me,” Cozier said.
However, when he questioned as to when he would receive his money he was told that the money was ‘drug money’ since the drugs were found with the money.
The frustrated Cozier said all he has been asking for is the return of his money and the police have been refusing to do so.
The man also complained that only one of the suspects in the second robbery has been arrested although he had given information to the police about a second suspect.
