With what was deemed a great performance, members of the Guyana Police Force on Sunday evening displayed their diverse talents at their annual night of carols held at the Officers Mess Eve Leary.
Those in attendance were entertained with songs by choirs of the different divisions, dances, acrobatic displays and even stand up comedy by the Master of Ceremony, Superintendent Oswald Josiah.
Popular Christmas songs like ‘Oh Holy Night’ and ‘Happy Birthday Jesus’ exerted a pull on the crowd gathered at Eve Leary.
Captivating to the crowd were the songs performed by the joint services choir and the set of hilarious jokes told by Superintendent Josiah.
More thrilling than any was the acrobatic display by the members of the Felix Austin Police College. They left the crowd with ‘Ohs and aaahs’ with their uncommon performances.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene said that the side of the force seen at the Night of Carols is the softer side of policing.
He added that the force is performing well, having reduced the serious crimes by 11 per cent compared to last year.
He added that even though they have failed in certain areas, the police have managed to take control by reducing accidents and crime to the lowest for the past 39 years.
Greene said that this is a very tough period fighting with criminal elements and the police have plans in place to deploy most of the ranks to the streets for this the Christmas season.
All police offices will be emptied from today to ensure safety throughout the season.
Among those at the Evening of Carols was Prime Minster Samuel Hinds.
The Prime Minister, who was not scheduled to deliver an address, urged Green and his people to continue the great services provided.
