…ahead of Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club Meeting
Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) formerly handed over its sponsorship of the ‘H’ Class Race for the Kennard’s Memorial Boxing Day Horse Race Meeting, which will be held at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club in Corentyne.
DDL’s sponsorship covers the prizes for the ‘H’ Class race in which the winner collects a sum of $150,000, second place $75, 000, third place $37,500 and fourth place $18,750 on the day along with trophies and other replicas.
Justice Cecil Kennard said that the weather is good and despite minor showers, the turf is not affected and remains in excellent shape for the big day. “We should have a good day of exciting races in the Corentyne,” Kennard stated.
He informed that he has been assured that DDL’s sponsorship will continue next year for the annual Boxing Day Meeting while the company’s Wines and Spirits Brands Manager Maria Munroe echoed similar sentiments yesterday.
“We have been supporting Kennard for the past 32 years and they have been doing some good work over those years… so definitely we would support it again next year,” Munroe indicated, adding that it is usually a lucrative gesture.
“It is our only event out of Demerara apart from Rodeo in Lethem. People don’t have the kinds of events in those communities,” she continued, adding that the sponsorship effort could see an increase providing DDL has a good year.
