North Essequibo defeated central Essequibo by 8 wickets as play in the first round of Guyana Cricket Board national first division three day cricket competition commenced in Essequibo last weekend.
At Anna Regina Centre Ground, North won the toss and inserted Central to bat first who were bowled out for 155. Marvin Pearson top scored with 36 as Nimran Bahadur and Uvindra Balgobin took two wickets each.
North, in reply, made 238 all out with Navin Singh being their chief run getter with 67 while Rajiv Manichand supported with 42. Henry Green bagged 5-59 and Ravindra Mahabir 2-41 in their second turn at the crease managed 141. Ryan McCall scored 28 and national U-17 player Herell Green 24 as off spinner Uvindra Balgobin captured 4-41 and 15 year old Anant Kowshall 3-35.
North then hit off the required total ending on 64-2. Navin Singh was again among the runs with an unbeaten 45. Henry Green took 2-12 for Central.
At Suddie, in another zone A game, rain put an end to the contest on day 2 after Pomeroon were 35-2 in 18 overs in reply to South Essequibo first innings score of 277-8 declared in 74 overs.
National U-19 player Anthony Adams top scored for South with 82 while Jagdeep Dindyal made 81 and Norman Federicks 46 as Manoj Lall grabbed 2-51, Sanjeev Ramdeen 2-36 and Ramesh Narine 2-18 for Pomeroon.
In zone B, Wakenaam took first innings points from East Bank Essequibo before rain had the final say.
At the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground, the host batted first and made 210 all out in 55 overs. Opener Tulsieram Ramadeen led with 67 while Chandreka Ragnauth made 57 as pacer Edwin Burnette bagged 5-40.
East Bank Essequibo in reply were bowled out for 107 with Essequibo wicketkeeper/batsman Lennox Andrews scoring 33.
Offspinner Nokta Moses bagged 4-38 while Imran Khan and Ragnauth took two wickets apiece. Wakenaam batting a second time were 44-4 at the end of day 2. The entire third day was rained out.
