Mike’s Pharmacy manager beaten during daylight robbery
Three young gunmen escaped with a small amount of cash after beating the manager of the Mike’s Pharmacy Wholesale Depot on Sheriff Street in a brazen afternoon robbery.
The incident occurred despite the heavy police patrols in the busy commercial area.
The Sheriff Street Pharmacy that was attacked by bandits yesterday.
In fact, a police mobile patrol had just passed the location when the bandits struck and then made good their escape towards Sophia.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that around 14:00 hours, three youths who were all reportedly carrying firearms entered the depot and held up the manager as the other staff members ran and hid.
A male member of staff told this newspaper that he saw when the men entered the business place and began looking around suspiciously.
He said that he approached the men with a view to enquiring what they wanted but backed off when one of them whipped out a gun.
“I going fuh ask dem if they getting through but one pull out a gun and then I start hollering,” the employee said.
“I shout out, ‘Gun!’ and tell de other staff dem fuh run,” he added.
As the other employees ran to safety, the manager, he said, was cornered by two of the bandits and beaten with a gun.
The employee said that he managed to run to the upper flat of the building from where he jumped through a window and tried to summon help.
After relieving the manager of the cash the three bandits exited the premises and ran first in a southerly direction along Sheriff Street.
The employee who had escaped was standing on the road seeking help when he saw the men running towards him.
“I see dem coming and I run in de Chinese shop,” he said. The bandits then made good their escape before members of a police mobile patrol arrived.
The police combed the area and detained two men but they were not identified as the bandits by employees of the establishment.
By then the manager was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital and sent away.
Several persons lamented that such an incident could occur despite the announced and visible presence of police patrols.
