The 18-year-old employee who was questioned following last Friday’s robbery at Sheik Hassan’s Printery has been released.
Police said that the teen was released on $25,000 station bail yesterday after investigators found no evidence to link him to the robbery at the Eccles Industrial Site.
Kaieteur News understands that the employee had come under suspicion because he was seen speaking on his mobile phone shortly before the robbery occurred.
In addition, the source said that the youth was dismissed some months ago after he was suspected to have pilfered items from the company.
He was subsequently re-hired.
It was at around 19:00 hrs last Friday that three men armed with a handgun made off with an estimated $900,000 after entering the printery and robbing the employees and relieving the company’s accountant of cash.
According to reports, the 55-year-old security guard was at the front gate when four men came up to the premises. While one remained outside, the others entered through the front gate and informed the guard that they were there to see someone named ‘George’.
When the guard informed them that there was no one by that name in the building, the men held him at gunpoint and forced him to accompany them further into the compound.
The bandits then entered and robbed nine employees while relieving the accountant of money belonging to the company.
