Khan pleased with TCL Group Windies U-19 side’s preparations
Omar Khan, the TCL Group West Indies under-19 Manager, has stressed the importance of the squad’s one-week training camp ahead of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand next month and believes the camp has helped the squad prepare for its campaign.

The camp included a two-match series against Canada in St Kitts which the West Indies clinched 2-0.
“The camp has gone pretty okay; we have achieved most of the goals and objectives we set out regarding the overall readiness.” Khan, a former senior team Manager, told journalists.
“However, we have to understand that the World Cup will be tougher. When we get to New Zealand, it will be different opposition, a step up from the Canadians.”
Khan was happy with most departments of the team’s performance in the series, except for its fast bowling: “Coach Andre Coley and Roddy Estwick are doing a tremendous job in getting the batsmen to plan their innings, the spinners look good, they were excellent but there is still some work for the pace men regarding consistency in bowling line and length, and the fielding has been very good.”
The TCL Group West Indies side has been placed in Group D of the ICC U-19 CWC 2010 along with Pakistan, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea and will begin its campaign against Pakistan on 15 January at Fitzherbert Park.
The last TCL Group West Indies team had to settle for the plate title in Malaysia last year after failing to reach the semi-finals of the main competition which was won by India. (Sean Devers)
