Robbery at Sheik Hassan Printery…
Police are questioning an 18-year-old employee of Sheik Hassan’s Printery in connection with last Friday’s heist at the Eccles Industrial Site establishment.
Kaieteur News understands that police have found nothing of significance to link the employee to the robbery. However, a source said that he came under suspicion because he was seen speaking on his mobile phone shortly before the three bandits invaded the premises.
In addition, the source said that the youth was dismissed some months ago after he was suspected to have pilfered items from the company.
He was subsequently re-hired.
It was at around 19:00 hrs last Friday that three men armed with a handgun made off with an estimated $900,000 after entering the printery and robbing the employees and relieving the company’s accountant of cash.
According to reports, the 55-year-old security guard was at the front gate when four men came up to the premises. While one remained outside, the others entered through the front gate and informed the guard that they were there to see someone named ‘George’.
When the guard informed them that there was no one by that name in the building, the men held him at gunpoint and forced him to accompany them further into the compound.
The bandits then entered and robbed nine employees while relieving the accountant of money belonging to the company.
An eyewitness said that the men departed on foot.
The eyewitness said that he had no idea that a robbery had occurred until several police ranks arrived at the scene.
