A Canadian citizen became the latest person to be arrested at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, attempting to smuggle narcotics out of the country.
Yesterday, ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics arrested the man who had in his possession 2.5 kilograms of cocaine.
The Canadian is in police custody.
And a joint operation involving ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit and the Guyana Revenue Authority saw a raid being conducted on several properties owned and controlled by Salim Bacchus, the son of slain smuggler Azad Bacchus.
A source close to the raid said that the operation was intelligence driven and led to the discovery of an unlicenced firearm and several articles believed to be uncustomed. Salim Bacchus and his wife were taken into custody and remained there up to press time.
