The two men held for armed robbery on a female Brazilian national last Tuesday, were yesterday remanded, with one of the two accused claiming that the woman has never identified them as her assailants.
Richard Blackman, 26, of Kitty, and Cecil Craygon, 38, of Charlestown, appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton to answer a charge of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on December 15, the men, one of them armed with a gun, robbed Ballina Silva of one Brazilian passport, 7 penny weights raw gold, G$182,000 along with a Brazilian identification card. The two were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Blackman asked for bail and stated that Silva was present and had not positively identified either of them.
Police prosecutor Shellon Daniels said that Blackman is no stranger to such offences, while adding that Craygon has pending charges at another court which he was out on bail for. Daniels stated that on the day in question, one of the men was driving a car while the other went into Silva’s yard pointed a gun at her and robbed her. Daniels stated that they then escaped via the car. She added that they were later apprehended by police on patrol.
The magistrate remanded the two accused who are expected to return to court on December 21.
