A Children’s Christmas party in the Cove and John Police Station compound ended abruptly last evening after the landing of a building in the compound collapsed with several participants.
Nine children and a woman were subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). The woman, 26-year-old Tisheree Woolford of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, is believed to have sustained a broken left leg.
However, the children appeared to have sustained minor injuries and were not expected to be admitted.
Sources identified some of the injured as Joe Jack, 14, of Victoria Village, Felicity Moore, 17, Shamar Holder, 12, and a four-year-old boy identified only as Joshua.
Kaieteur News understands that the children were just about to receive their presents from ‘Santa’, when the landing collapsed with them.
The injured, accompanied by police officers, were rushed to the GPHC in two vehicles. They were still being treated in the Accident and Emergency unit late yesterday evening.
