The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) yesterday commenced the works on the well at Amelia’s Ward Linden, which is to serve residents of Amelia’s Ward, Kara Kara Housing Scheme, Industrial Area and Retrieve.
The works commenced through funding provided by the Central Housing and Planning Authority. The contract was awarded to Nabi and Sons Limited at a cost of $84,969,199.
According to GWI’s Water Resources Engineer, Marlon Daniels, “This new well will be drilled to a target depth of 400 feet with the capacity to serve over 10,000 residents.” These residents will benefit from an improved water supply.
The project is slated to be completed by next March and beneficiaries of the project indicated that they are anticipating the completion of the well station, since these areas continue to expand, creating more demand for water. Tests will be performed by GWI’s Scientific Services Department to ensure that the water supplied by the new Amelia’s Ward well is safe for consumption.
