Dec 17, 2009 Letters
Dear Editor,
The Guyana Post Office Corporation wishes to raise its concern about parts of your publication on page 14 of the December, 10, 2009 edition of the Kaieteur News regarding the refurbished post offices in Berbice.
In part of this article it was stated of residents at Skeldon that, “they also noticed that the roofing appeared untouched except for a few nails to nail down loose sheets. The only sign of new sheets was over the stairway leading to the upper flat.”
Please be advised that in connection with the Skeldon Post Office removal replacement was done to the floor, ceiling, walls and roof (parts of which cannot be seen by persons passing along outside the building as is evident in your picture).
Additionally the concrete vault was relocated, as well as the inner ‘cage’ and sections of the fence were replaced and the stairs renovated. Plumbing works were carried out as well as painting of the entire building among other jobs.
Please be further advised that at Nigg work was done on the floor, walls and counter; a new fence was built and the roof and guttering repaired. Additionally the entire building was painted. While at Eversham the entire top flat of the building was removed and work done to the roof. The entire building was also painted
The Corporation wishes to remind you that an invitation was sent to your media entity for you to accompany management and directors as they paid visits to these offices. These visits would have offered the opportunity for closer inspection of the interior as well as exterior of the renovated buildings and questions would have been entertained so that specific information would have been supplied.
The Guyana Post Office Corporation finds parts of your publication in the 10th December, 2009 issue of your newspaper, particularly its heading — “Those renovated Post Offices” and report on the Skeldon Post Office to be biased especially since the views of residents were reflected, but explanations neither clarifications were sought from officials from the Post Office in relation to these views.
To this end the Corporation deems this letter to set the record straight a good point of reference for your entity.
Ms. Y. Jervis
Public Relations Officer
