Seawall FC tackle Rusal; Fruta Conquerors meet Eagles
By Franklin Wilson
The battle for supremacy at the 20th Kashif & Shanghai Football tournament is all set to continue this evening at the Georgetown Football Club ground with what is anticipated to be an entertaining double header.
Two-time champions (2002-2003/2004-2005) and three time finalists Fruta Conquerors will engage Eagles United who won the championship in its 2nd year (1991-1992) and were beaten finalists in the inaugural tournament (1990/91) then known as Greg and Shanghai.
This evening’s main event will see the respective teams going after glory not only tournament wise but are aiming to reclaim respect from other teams and fans as formidable teams. Conquerors are on a developmental curve as they showcase a mixture of youth and experience while Eagles also in on a rebuilding journey.
Leading Conquerors’ challenge will be the young prolific and exciting forward Manasseh Primo who has been a certain starter for his team at the Cellink Premier League level and their Under-19 team. Some other young exciting players who will have the opportunity to be on show are Trevon Lythcott, Oswald Cornette, Odel Williams, Joylon Harry and Eon Alleyne.
Among the tested tried and proven seniors are, Elroy Parks, Lester ‘Puppy’ Peters, Lennox Charles, Neville Stanton, Gerald Gritten, Devon Forde and Delon Williams.
Eagles’ quest for victory will be carried by the likes of former junior national goalkeeper Ravin Choo who is one of their four guest players, the others are Randy Small, Ezzie and Marley Major. Derron Smith, Clive Nobrega, Trenton Bangree, Rennison Major, Ceon Major, Floyd Major, Deon Benjamin, Ronnel Bristol, David Grey, Delon Charter and Alestor Johnson are some of the other players Eagles will depend on to lead their charge.
The Rusal/Seawall FC will see the latter going into the game with the advantage given the fact that they were part of the inaugural GFF National Super League. But while that might be so, Rusal will not be focused on that but will be going all out for a win tonight.
Their line-up includes the experienced former junior national Travis Waterton, Sherlock Adams, Dion Jordon, Jashawn Thom, Terry McPherson, Cecil Dryden, Dale Sauers, Kellon Phillips, Roy Leacock, Adolphus Welch, Rawle Gordon, Kevin Hope, Carlton Brutus, Keyon Phillips, Anton Simon, Ted Rogers and guest players – Ulril Murphy, Eon Pluck, Curth Murphy and Norville Adrian.
Seawall United boasts a strong line up which will be led by the menacing forward Clement Browne and Captain Dorius Garraway. Marvin Griffith, Dexroy Adams, Michael Costello, Toine Lopes, Keith Blackman, Cleveland Walcott, Delon Josiah, Garland Lewis, Ruel Delon, Delon Layne, Steve Felix, Nigel Garraway, Zevon Atkinson, Sundea Grandison, Adam Hoyte, Todd Hoyte, Algernon Scott, Michael Osborne and Ulric Griffith are the other players who will be in contention to make the starting eleven.
