…family saved by neighbours
A family of five almost lost everything in an early morning fire that consumed the bottom flat of their home.
Thanks to quick action by neighbours, the occupants were saved from experiencing major losses.
Geeta Lall and her family, of lot 452 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, were yesterday awakened by frantic neighbours at approximately 06:00 hrs, alerting them of a fire that was blazing downstairs.
At the time of the fire Lall, her daughters; Angelie, 3, and Sarah, 4, her grandmother 72 year old Kairoon Lall and Davanand Doray were asleep in the upper flat.
Lall told Kaieteur News that she and her family hastily left the house through the back door of the building.
Meanwhile neighbours from throughout the street formed a bucket brigade and had the fire under control by the time the fire service arrived on the scene (some fifteen to twenty minutes after Lall had been alerted) to completely extinguish the flames.
Kaieteur News understands that the room where the fire originated was used as a storage area.
