Dear Editor,
With the end of 2009 fast approaching, it is fitting for me to acknowledge those who are dedicated to their respective professions in making a difference to society. The same goes to those for their continued support with projects that I would have undertaken.
I would like to add that even when you might be the underdog it doesn’t in anyway mean that you are out of competition.
An ideal scenario is with British/Scottish singing sensation, Susan Boyle and in my books she is my global person of the year.
Locally, I would like to mention a few names that I believe fits that profile and they are as follows:
Diane McTurk – for her lifelong caring for orphaned otters.
Eileen Cox – for her readings via the dailies.
Mrs. Carmen Jarvis (retired) – for her service within the education fraternity.
THAG & GEMS – for keeping Guyana in the positive limelight with its marketing tourism tools, The Annual Explore Guyana Magazine and mini handbook.
For 2010, I anticipate sheer excitement from the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada and The World Cup Soccer, South Africa. Because Coca Cola is among other marketing affiliates of FIFA, it might be worth considering by Banks DIH to embark on a local marketing campaign with promotional giveaways and have a few persons jet off to South Africa during the soccer matches.
My passport is in tact.
Because Mash is a major event, the business community might also want to utilise persons within the graphics fraternity in creating concepts for floats and costumes for the parade. There are some creative minds that are always in the background and deserve the opportunity to showcase their creativeness through such events.
A safe season to all and don’t waste water and food, for there are many sections globally that are desperately in need.
T. Pemberton
