Christmas is the season for sharing and happiness, and an elderly Buxton resident has been giving back to her community during this season for the last 15 years.
For 86 year-old Elain McNeal, an annual party for the children of the neighbourhood is something she looks forward to every Christmas.
Christmas is the season for sharing and happiness, and an elderly Buxton resident has been giving back to her community during this season for the last 15 years.
McNeal, who resided in the United States of America for 15 years, undertook this venture since her re-migration to Guyana in 1994.
She started with a party catering for 75 children. To date, over 300 children from Buxton and neighbouring communities attend her Christmas party, which she estimates at approximately $500,000 this year.
The party held last Saturday included the sharing of toys and gifts, music, food and drinks for the children and also games and rides such as merry-go-round.
McNeal, who is a mother of one, claims that she undertakes this yearly exercise because of her love for children and her urge to give back to the community of Buxton. She said that this is the happiest day of her life and that she loves to see the smiles on the children’s faces.
