Stephenson takes gold in 200m breast; Roberts’s cops bronze in 200m fly
Guyana’s T&T based swimmer Jessica Stephenson, competing in the 13-14 age group copped gold in her favourite event, the 200m at the Marlins Invitational Swim Meet (Inter Club) which is being held in the Twin Island Republic.
Stephenson’s gold medal performance on Friday saw her achieving a new Personal Best time of 2:53.95 which erased her previous best by almost a full 2 seconds as she beat her rivals by a resounding 11 seconds. Stephenson also finished 5th in Thursday’s opening 400m free.
Niall Roberts secured a bronze medal on the opening day in the boy’s 15 and over 200m fly in 2:35.38 and placed 5th in the 50m fly and 9th in the fiercely contested 100m free.
Fabian Binns achieved a new Personal Best in the 100m free of 59.71 for a 17th place finish, breaking the magical 1 minute mark for the first time in his career.
The four day competition ends today. Marlins is hosting the fully FINA sanctioned ASATT Invitational with over 370 swimmers from the region and the USA.
