Dear Editor,
As a concerned citizen of Region Four and one who demonstrates keen attention of the many issues that have been affecting the regional democratic council of Region Four, I am amazed in the manner the Regional Chairman, Clement Corlette deals with the issues that does not fall within his duty as Regional Chairman.
Corlette’s continued dictatorial style and his hunger for power which he does not have at his disposal leaves much to be desired.
One of several Corlette’s dictatorial style is the rental of the Kuru Kururu bond located on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
As I am aware the bond is an asset of the region and as such is controlled by the accounting officer and in this case is the regional executive officer and not by the Regional Chairman.
If I could recall the Kuru Kururu bond was locked up for many years and based on that Corlette took it upon himself to have the bond rented in December 2006 to one Mr. Jones without the approval of the accounting officer
I can also recall than an agreement was made between the regional chairman and Mr. Jones for a rental of $100,000 to be paid. However, I was reliably informed that the agreement has not been honoured to date. Further the Regional Chairman move to have the bond rented did not have the full support of the entire council, the PPP/C side of the council recently at the statutory meeting objected to the rental of the bond.
They were of the opinion that the bond should be established into some form of education facility in order to benefit the hundreds of school dropouts in the area who are in dire need of education.
It is my humble opinion this episode is the latest salvo in an ongoing battle of dictatorship being displayed by the Regional Chairman and takes us back to the fundamental issue which is Mr. Corlette’s dictatorial behaviour and poor leadership.
His tenure as Regional Chairman thus has been unproductive, fill of rancor, witch hunt and constant hatred and challenge for the system of regional government.
