Cash also donated; Club promises to make sponsor proud
By Franklin Wilson
BK International Inc. has boosted the morale of the Western Tigers Football Club (WTFC) by equipping the team with a new set of uniforms along with 21 pairs of boots and a similar amount of balls ahead of the 20th Kashif and Shanghai football tournament.
The official sponsor of the club also made a cash donation to assist with other expenses of the club beyond the Kashif and Shanghai tournament. The simple ceremony took place at the company’s Mandela Avenue Head Office Wednesday afternoon.
This donation according to Office Manager Egan Bazilio is part of the Company ongoing support for the continued development of WTFC and the promotion of sports in the community.
“As a company, we have seen great improvement in the club over the past year and we now that the various donations have equipped them to perform the way they have been. So we are very pleased with their performance.”
BK International Western Tigers in recent months won the Mackeson Futsal tournament and were beaten in the finals of the NAMILCO Football Festival by Sunburst Camptown.
An elated WTFC President Gordon Gilhuys was high in praise of BK International Inc. for what termed their sustained assistance to the club ever since the partnership started, two years ago.
“This contribution will go a far way in preparing us for the Kashif and Shanghai tournament and I would like to thank them {BK Int.} for their help and I want to wish the Management and Staff a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.”
Gilhuys said he is very impressed with the consistent progress of the players on and off the field. He said that the area of discipline has seen great improvement and this is now being transferred onto the field of play which has resulted in improved results.
“I think we are now poised to achieve even greater heights and we have our sights set on winning the Kashif and Shanghai tournament come January 1, 2010.”
The club has retained the services of Senior Golden Jaguar Shawn Beveney as one of their loan (guest) players for the K&S tournament and is in negotiations for another top forward to enhance their chances of winning Guyana’s most celebrated knock-out competition set to commence on Sunday.
