The best players in the country are expected to square off from this Friday in the season ending Tropical Mist Banks Masters Tennis Tournament, at the Pegasus Hardcourts.
This information was intimated to the media during a briefing to launch the tournament which was held yesterday, at the Pegasus Hotel.
Attended by executive members of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA), Tropical Mist Brand Manager Errol Nelson and Pegasus Hotel’s Guest Services representative Prem Jogi, tournament co-ordinator Rawle Sue-Ho speaking on behalf of the organisers said that the competition will be staged over two weekends and will adopt the ITF rules and the GLTA’s code of conduct.
He extended the Association’s deepest appreciation to Banks DIH for their active participation and contribution to the development of the sport.
According to Sue-Ho, the tournament will bring together the current top four players in eight categories with two alternates for each on stand-by in the event of any of those listed cannot play.
Nelson in his remarks spoke of the relationship Banks DIH have with the Association, adding that they’ve teamed up in the past for several prestigious tournaments. He said that they are pleased to be associated with the most recent endeavour which will be graced by the country’s top players.
Nelson exuded confidence that the tournament will exhibit a very high standard and assured their support towards the development of the sport.
Tropical Mist, which is pure artesian well water and a sure thirst quencher, is a brand of a high quality and the organisers and the sponsor’s representative are optimistic that the tournament will be characterised by such.
He pledged their continued support for the GLTA.
Meanwhile, Jogi pledged his entity’s continued support for the sport, adding that they had no hesitation in offering the facility for use during the tournament.
The players called in the various categories are: Girls 14 and under- 1.Krystal Sukra, 2. Tania Niamatali, 3. Nicola Ramdyhan and 4. Tamera Chester.
Areta Dey is the alternate; Boys 14 and under- 1. Gavin Lewis, 2. Daniel Lopes, 3. Seanden David Longe and 4. Brian Ramsudh.
Khalif Gobin and Benedict Sukra are the alternates; Girls 18 and under- 1. Shawna Gentle, 2. Aruna Ramrattan, 3. K. Sukra and 4. T. Niamatali. Nadia Cox and Stephenie Brassington are the alternates; Boys 18 and under- 1. Jeremy Miller, 2. Anthony Downes, 3. Jonathan Antzcak and Geraldo Alphonso. Seanden David Longe and Saevion David Longe are the alternates; Ladies Open- 1. Carol Humphrey, 2. Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan, 3. S. Gentle and 4. A.Ramrattan. Grace McCalman is the alternate; Men’s Open- 1. Phillip Squires, 2. Ezra Sue-Ho, 3. A. Downes and 4. Leyland Leacock. J. Miller and Rudy Grant are the alternates; Mixed Doubles- 1. E. Sue-Ho / S. Gentle, 2. P. Squires / A. Ramrattan, 3. Godfrey Lowden / C. Humphrey and 4. Javed Khan / G. McCalman; Men’s Doubles- P. Squires / G. Lowden, 2. L. Leacock / E. Sue-Ho, 3. J. Miller / J. Antzcak and 4. A. Downes / G. Alphonso. Gilbert Barckoy / Tony Ameerally are the alternate.
