The members of local amateur boxing sent out a united message yesterday when they elected Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle unopposed to the post of president of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association.
Many of them had pushed for Ninvalle to head the sport but he was defeated by a narrow one vote margin in the last elections, but following some disagreeable circumstances, the previous head, Affeeze Khan demitted office making the post technically open.
However, the affiliates had indicated their desire for the former journalist to sit in the post. His position as a government functionary and relationship with several key stakeholders in the business community and government, including Minister Dr. Frank Anthony, has been seen as key to the development of the sport.
Full details of the GABA elections in tomorrow’s edition.
