A fine allround performance by Ryan Heyliger guided Santos to victory over Golden Fleece in the final of the South Essequibo U-17 cricket competition played recently at Suddie on the Essequibo Coast.
Heyliger top scored with 37 as Santos made 78 all out after the game was reduced to 10 overs. National U-15 player Vijay Surujpaul grabbed 3-18 while Raj Parbattie and Quanzo Success took two wickets each.
Golden Fleece in reply scored 69 all out in their 10 overs. Raj Parbattie led with 32 as man-of-the-match Heyliger returned to bag 4-11 and Floyd Mall 2-8 for Santos who took the winning trophy.
In the semi-finals played earlier, Golden Fleece defeated Johanna Cecelia High School and Santos overcame Aurora.
Scores: At Suddie Semi-final 1: JC High School 81 all out in 18 overs (Quanzo Success 2-19, Suresh Nandkishore 3-9, Raj Parbattie 3-10) lost to Golden Fleece 83, Q. Success 21).
Semifinal 2: Santos 91 all out in 20 overs (Ryan Heyliger 34, Marlon Pearson 2-16, Navin Singh 2-10, Nav Sarabjeet 2-1) beat Aurora 74 all out in 18 overs (Floyd Mall 3-16, Acuasie Adams 3-12).
Meanwhile in the 40 overs competition, Johanna Cecelia defeated Golden Fleece by 6 wickets.
Scores: Golden Fleece 70 all out in 14 overs. (Teddy James 3-6) lost to Johanna Cecelia 74-4 in 10 overs (Raj Parbattie 20, Brawathe Edwardsd 17, Vijay Surujpaul 2-20, Randy Mandho 2-1.
This competition continues on Sunday.
