The Chinese government yesterday donated some $12M worth of medical instruments to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. The items were provided by the Ministry of Health P.R. China and the Jiangsu Province and will be utilized at the Eye Centre and Centre for Laparoscopic Surgery.
Ambassador Zhang Jungao in his remarks said that China and Guyana have long enjoyed friendly relations and cooperation in the health sector.
He explained that in the past 16 years there have been several batches of doctors who have all contributed to the health services.
He added that each batch has made their own contribution to the local community.
The envoy said that the Chinese government would continue in its long term support of Guyana with focus placed on the two centers. He noted that with the aim of building advanced medical centers, more advance techniques will be introduced and more surgeons will be trained.
The ambassador added that with the support of the two governments and the Jiangsu province the two centers will significantly improve medical care in Guyana and it would also bring many benefits to Guyanese. He noted that the two facilities would be branded as part of the Chinese medical outreach.
He stated that although China and Guyana are far apart there is the common aspiration for development. He also noted that the two countries’ friendly relations have been deepening throughout the years. The ambassador emphasised that the Chinese government is pursuing common development and also cooperation and mutual benefit. He said that with joint efforts more fruits will be borne in cooperation of various areas.
