Dear Editor,
The season of glad tidings and goodwill is once again around the corner, unfortunately we are living in a time of great distress and misery, economic meltdown, climate change, and war has engulfed the world.
Christmas in Guyana and even around the world is always special, in the sense of giving and sharing with the less fortunate, and the joy of festivities within every community, especially as it relates to cleaning, shopping, and decorating.
This year can be a defining moment in the history of this auspicious holiday; many persons have begun to sing the song “There Will Be No Christmas For Me”.
The straight facts are many persons are stressing out, no jobs, and meager salaries, little or no bonus to expect and an economy that is under performing.
Many of our children will be looking forward to the joy of playing with a toy, but most importantly having something special on the table to eat, and the cry is far from the realities of life, fathers are hard press to make a $7000 a week income cover food stuff much less clothes, mothers are even more pressed to make much of the little to buy some goodies like apples and grapes.
It must be asked when justice will be served for the poor? Therefore within this context I would like to make an earnest appeal to the most fortunate to share with the less fortunate, so that God Almighty will bless us all for the love and brotherhood of giving and sharing with our fellow human.
