General Manager of SOL Guyana INC, Ken Figaro, on Thursday officially commissioned the Shell Linden Service Station, at the old ESSO facility on Republic Avenue Linden.
Figaro declared, “Today we are extremely delighted with your presence here, to celebrate with us the official commissioning of SHELL Linden Service Station, with SHELL’s new image- the SHELL Retail Visual Identity Evolution.
The ‘SHELL Evolution’ image with its modern, cleaner and brighter appearance is brand new to the Region, and is indeed the third in Guyana.
The rebranding of this Service, fits in with SOL’s strategic planning to deliver to customers, quality products and services at state of the art service stations not only in Georgetown, but in Linden, Berbice and the West Bank.
SOL has 20 such branded sites to date in five countries, with three more to follow in Guyana.
Figaro said that following the purchase of ESSO’s distribution and marketing assets in 2007, SOL Guyana embarked on the debranding of the eight former ESSO service Stations in Guyana, and their rebranding as Shell sites in keeping with their licensing agreement with SHELL brands internationally.
He added that already the SHELL Ramsbury and SHELL Corriverton Service Stations have been rebranded and commissioned. Finishing touches are being added to the Shell Vreed-en-Hoop Station scheduled for commissioning this month.
Work is expected to soon begin at the McDoom and Regent Street sites, which will be renamed SHELL McDoom and SHELL Regent Street, Figaro added.
The SOL Group was formed in February 2007 through the acquisition of SHELL’S petroleum distribution and marketing businesses in the Eastern Caribbean, Guyana, Suriname and Belize. SOL had earlier acquired the SHELL Company Puerto Rico in August 2006, followed by purchases in Suriname, Guyana, and Haiti, Figaro said.
Other acquisitions include stations in Antigua, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Maarten, St Vincent and Suriname.
These transactions cover all aspects of SHELL’s Aviation fuel businesses including the distribution facilities and aviation equipment.
Figaro posited that the Linden station which is SOL’s latest acquisition is another step in achieving SOL’s strategic objective of establishing a business presence in all the countries in the Caribbean.
At the conclusion of these transactions SOL would have increased its Service Station Network by 142, and its commercial sector by over 150 customers, representing a wide cross section of industries such as power, construction, distribution, metals, foods beverage and agriculture, Figaro said.
Sol currently supplies fuels, lubricants, bitumen and LPG through an extensive service Station network, and through its aviation, marine and commercial operations.
Regional Officials and other major stakeholders in Linden who were on hand to witness the commissioning of the Linden branch of the SOL family, commended the initiative and reiterated that SOL certainly changes the concept of gas stations.
