“We believe strongly that this tournament serves to expose lots of young talented players and it is indeed a positive means for young people.” These were the words of young Jamelle Herbert just after handing over two large trophies to the Kashif and Shanghai Organization for the 20th edition of the of the tournament which is set to kick off next Sunday at the Guyana National stadium, Providence.
Handing over the trophies along with Jamelle were her sister Tiffany and brother Tavar. This is the 11th year the Herbert Family has been supporting the tournament and according to their dad James, they will continue to lend support for a very long time to come.
James noted that he has been a long time friend of Kashif and Shanghai and he has been impressed with their level of commitment and professionalism over the years in brining the tournament to what it is today.
“The two guys have toiled over the years and produced a tournament that is second to none in Guyana. What is more, is the fact that this tournament has gone beyond Guyana and is also played in sister Caribbean country St. Lucia. This is a great achievement and Kashif and Shanghai needs to be congratulated for this.”
Senior Herbert also said that the visit of King Pele for the official opening next Sunday is the greatest thing to have ever happened in the football arena in Guyana. “I am looking forward to Pele’s visit.”
