While Maxwell Thom is recovering from the effects of the most recent Regent Street fire that destroyed his business, he has been the subject of a gun attack.
Shortly after midnight Friday night, at Cadet Lane, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, Thom, 41, was outside his home when several shots were fired at him.
A Police report stated that Thom was about to exit his motor vehicle at the entrance to his residence, when he was confronted by three men armed with handguns and who had driven up in an AT 212 Toyota Carina motor car. The men immediately discharged rounds at him.
The police said that Thom returned fire at the men with his licensed firearm and they escaped in their vehicle.
He was not hit by any of the rounds.
Police recovered a .32 spent shell at the scene and an investigation has since been launched.
Thom declined to comment on the shooting, saying that he was acting on the side of caution. He however said that he was traumatised.
Thom is the owner of Wireless Connections. Earlier reports are that gunmen attacked and riddled his house but Thom has denied that shots were fired at his house.
Meanwhile, in another unrelated matter, on Friday December 4, the police conducted anti-crime operations in “B” Division (Berbice).
All told 19 houses were searched and a number of persons were arrested pending investigations into various offences including possession of narcotics, robbery, break and enter and larceny, and burglary. Two motor vehicles were also detained.
