Dear Editor,
It seems as though Region Four is on auto pilot. I write on behalf of the people of Golden Grove Bush Corner.
This is a housing scheme situated north of the public road. During the first week of October 2009 a group of concerned members of the PNCR, which included members of parliament, regional councillors and others, met with members of the Golden Grove community to discuss matters affecting them.
After listening to the folks it was observed that drainage was the most important issue facing them and it was decided that a two prong approach would be taken.
One of the approaches was that the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) would be approached for assistance. This was done and it was revealed to the people that the Haslington/GroveNDC had made request since early in the year to the Regional Administration of Region Four for the use of its backhoe to do the very work the people were complaining about.
The NDC was told at the time that Cane Grove had to get first preference because it is a rice producing area.
The backhoe subsequently finish at Cane Grove and was returned to the Region.
The Overseer of the Haslington/Grove NDC again approached the REO and was told that the backhoe bucket had to be repaired and when this was finished the NDC would get the backhoe.
After some time she was then told that electrical work had to be done. Now she has to find an operator. She now has an operator and is still waiting.
Mr. Editor, what is bothering the people is the length of time they have to wait for this Backhoe.
This was a request made early in the year by the Overseer. I am also aware that the Unity/Veereniging NDC (Mahaica) had also made request for the use of the backhoe and is still waiting.
If you are going to or coming from Berbice you will observe when you are in the vicinity of the GT&T tower in Mahaica, huge heaps of crusher run stones (tons). This has been there for sometime awaiting the regional backhoe.
