An exciting night of quarter-final action has been set for Tuesday in the Mayor Green birthday 7-a-side football tournament being contested at the Tucville ground.
This follows final preliminary round action on Friday last at the same venue which set up four mouth watering matches Tuesday. In the scheduled quarter-finals matches, Fruta Conquerors are down to face Riddim Squad in the opening fixture, Pele challenge Uprising, Alpha come up against GDF and Western Tigers collide with Crane.
The Alpha GDF meeting in the second between the teams in two weeks, they last clashed in the GFF Super League final, which was won by Alpha and an interesting grudge match is anticipated.
The winners Tuesday will advance to the semis and final set for Friday at the same venue. Coordinator Lennox Arthur informed that the players requested the quarters be separated from the semis and final, hence the extra playing night.
In competition last Friday, Crane advanced at the expense of Uitvlugt by a 1-0 scoreline. Alpha led by Shawn Bishop and Ronson Williams booted Rich Boys 2-0, Conquerors needled YMCA, Western Tigers beat Kitty Rangers 2-0, Uprising got ahead of Black Pearl 1-0, GDF overcame Seawall 2-1, Riddim Squad also beat Victoria Kings 2-1 and Pele turned back the challenge of Flamingo 2-0 thanks to the efforts of Solomon Austin and Calvin Shepherd.
Apart from the quarter-finals, several exhibition games have been fixed for Tuesday.
