Cricket teams on the West Coast Demerara will engage in keen competition against their East Bank Essequibo counterparts when the Barakat Brothers stages a 20/20 cricket competition starting December 5 with several exciting matches.
The competition would be played on a knockout basis and the winning team pockets two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) and a Trophy while the runner-up receives fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) and a trophy.
The batsman scoring the most runs and the bowler that takes the most wickets in the competition will also receive special prizes while there would also be a special prize for the man of the match in the finals.
The tournament would be played on a knockout basis and organizer, Troy Khan has promised much excitement. He envisages keen competition since this is the first time that such a huge monetary prize has been put up for the first prize for this tournament. Teams would be dressed in coloured clothing and the competition would be played with white balls. The finals are slated for Boxing Day. The remaining fixtures are: today (Saturday 5) 13:15hrs- Meter-Meer Zorg A team versus Zeeburg at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground, while Windsor Forest tackle Zeelugt, also on the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground.
Tomorrow at 9:30hrs Devonshire Castle face off with Ruby United while later on that day Sunrise play Leguan. All Youth play Windsor Forest MYO starting at 09:30hrs. Later on that day McGill play Cornelia Ida.
